This question comes up every year, especially around Easter, in the group. And who doesn't want an adorable bunny or cute little chicks in their Easter/Spring photos? Like sunsets and sunflowers, it never goes out of style. But there are problems with offering live animals in photo shoots.

  1. Rabbits have sharp claws and can bite. Most bunnies don't like being held and may scratch or bite if they are restrained.
  2. You could be sued! Your little clients could be bitten or scratched and you could be subjecting yourself to legal action.
  3. Rabbits, chickens, and ducks are fairly fragile animals. They can be easily hurt or killed through injury or stress. The safety and welfare of the animals, and your clients, should always be paramount.
  4. It may actually be against the law to rent or use live animals in photo shoots. Some states have restrictions or may require you to have a license to rent live animals. You may also be required to have a license by the USDA. https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/banner/help
  5. Your insurance may not cover you in the event of an accident.
  6. License yourself for live animal sessions

But Don't Despair!

You can still have cute critters in your photo shoots without the risk and the poop!

Many photographers use realistic stuffed animals for their shoots. The cost is nominal and your clients will love them. And the best part is, no hassle and money for renting live animals!
